Self-directed 401k Real Estate FAQ – Can I roll over funds to my Solo 401k to invest in real estate?

QUESTION:

Is this a self-directed account I could use to invest in anything? For instance, If I roll over other 401k plans that I have with other employers, could I use my pre-tax solo 401k to invest in real estate?

RESPONSE:

Yes,  you can transfer any pre-tax funds from traditional  IRAs and former employer plans to the pretax bucket of the solo 401(k), and subsequently use them to place investments through the solo 401k plan.
