Can I open a brokerage account at Merrill Edge for my Solo 401k? Does it have to be at Fidelity or Schwab?

Thank you for your good question as well have helped our clients open accounts for their solo 401k at 100s of different banks and many different brokerages.
We are neutral as far as where the brokerage account is opened and we are hands-on in helping our clients open accounts for their Solo 401k including at Merrill Edge.
The key is that the accounts are opened under the name and EIN of the Solo 401k with separate accounts to the extent that there are different participants (e.g. husband and wife) and/or different types of funds (e.g. Rre-tax, Roth, and/or Voluntary After-tax).
