Solo 401k Eligibility FAQ – Can I still open a Solo 401k even though I have a W-2 Day Job?

QUESTION:

As a w-2 employee can I open a solo 401k?

RESPONSE:

While having a W-2 job (and even a 401(k) plan at your “day job”) will not prevent you from setting up a solo 401(k), you still need to be separately self-employed (Including reporting self-employment income on your taxes) with no full-time W-2 employees working for any business on by you or spouse (if any).
